The follow up to Dap Dippin'. Same old raw funk and the same old funk diva. The band seem to have matured and grown yet retained what made them so great.
The new funky soul sister, Sharon Jones, and US funk outfit The Dap Kings are incredible. Their first single release and opening title on this album, 'Got a thing on my mind', will blow you away with it's fat intro beat. At this instance you will realise that what you are about to hear is one of the finest and rarest funk/soul albums of late. Every track is super bad and consistent in style, personalities are thoroughly explored and vented through hardcore talent and when the raw but tight rhythms are heeded you can groove in a vibe fit for a Dap King. If you like funk, you do not want to miss this album.
One of the most goddamn chilled albums I have ever come across. Although, to say chilled, there is something about this album that takes you and keeps you alert with it's vitality. It is so full of mutated, reverbed and echoed sounds that bubble and pop to the dubby drum beats and slow rolling bass lines, that when heard and chilled to in the right circumstance, you will only find a true dub experience. I think I was pretty lucky to find a vinyl copy recently but there is a CD album and naturally, it's worth checking out. Together, Sly and Robbie create a most compelling and unique dub duo with years of influence and experience in Reggae circles.
Deep funk, chugging bass and scratchy guitar. These guys were brought up with music by Jimmy Smith and Brother Jack McDuff so they really got a good schooling. The CD even has a bonus track, with a live & wild psychedelic cover of James Brown’s ‘Superbad’ that will blow your mind!
