Lil' Lavair & The Fabulous Jades
Now and Again (Stones Throw Records)
Heavy deep funk reissue and not to be missed, another of those super rare tracks available at a good price. This gem's reputation is that of being, one of the most sought after deep funk records and one of the most appreciated of all time. It's funny how they all seem to get that reputation. Obviously, finding an original and affording one would be as hard as and as satisfying as punching Tony Blair in the face. My advice is, to forget about politics and be happy in purchasing this reissue. You want it heavy, you'll get it here and it can be as rare as you want it to.

Mr. D and the Highlights
Jas Records
Instant funky guitar and Hammond. Could be something missing though, perhaps the addition of vocals. Can't go wrong with funk like this.

B/W 'Every Now and Then'. A slow soulful number, excellent Motown.

Super funky wah wah with vocal delights from Naomi Davis, another name to the Daptone stable and another absolute cracker of a single.

Nicole Willis and The Soul Investigators
Sacho
Holy shit! Hats off, what a record, a hard dance floor track that'll take the roof off or if not, Nicole willis will do a good job of singing it off. This is the kind of band you want to see and hear live. This fast catchy riff of rhythm guitar that drives the drummer into pace and pulls with him the horns and a sax blown by the legend Jimi Tenor, will have anyone agreeing, this is one funky way to travel. And on a light and dusty organ road, that can only lead to everywhere. Jump in and hold on.

Queen Eve And The Kings
MPM
Some fast, hard hitting funk from Copenhagen and certainly worth hailing the Queen for two superbly delivered bass lines. This is a record that certainly pushes more to the new funk sound and very reminiscent of 'The New Master sounds' and 'The Soul Investigators' but creaming it with there own versions of how it should be done. The heavy drums and vibrant flute provide an excellent build for the organ to take control before being beaten with a drum break of strength. Love the background shouts of enthusiasm from the band. Congrats for the 3 year perseverance of getting this one released, hopefully we shall be seeing some more from the band a lot sooner.
